<p>I suppose the real question is, just how much does Scotland have to gain from leaving the UK ? Is it really impossible for members of a 300-year old union to work out the kinks in their relationship, escape the past, make compromises and avert what is very likely to be a mutually weakening split ? Also, the EU (that Scotland hopes to join) moves towards enhanced collaboration and consolidation resulting in less freedoms for member countries. The UK is considering the critical step of leaving the EU. Should Scotland leave the UK and then join the EU after the UK has left, they could easily end up with much less freedom than anticipated. I hope the people of Scotland suppress sentiments and objectively evaluate the situation.</p>
