Richard Turcsányi

Richard Turcsányi is Deputy Director of the Institute of Asian Studies in Bratislava and Editor-in-Chief of Global Politics Journal in Brno. He studied international relations, economics and political science at Masaryk University, Brno and currently is pursuing his Ph.D. at the Department of International Relations and European Studies of the same institution, where he also teaches courses on current East Asia, Chinese Foreign Policy and theories of international relations. Since August 2014, he has been working on a research project of the Taiwan Foundation at the National Chengchi University in Taiwan. (picture : Richard Turcsányi)

Slovak policy towards China is built on empty words

Big words, little deeds : Chinese investment plans in Slovakia don’t live up to their expectations so far. According to Richard Q. Turcsányi and Matej Šimalčík, the simplified narrative of the Central European countries as a “bridge and gate” between China and the EU needs to make way for a more realistic vision.

Die slowakische China-Politik beruht auf leeren Worten

treffpunkteuropa kontrovers diskutiert über den Einfluss Chinas in Mittelosteuropa : Für die slowakischen Chinaexperten Richard Q. Turcsányi und Matej Šimalčík sind es bisher vor allem große Worte und wenig Taten. Die chinesischen Investitionspläne in der Slowakei entsprechen kaum den Erwartungen. Die vereinfachte Darstellung der mitteleuropäischen Länder als « Brücke und Tor » zwischen China und der EU sollte einer realistischeren Vision weichen.
